Description

In my experimental comics class, we're currently doing a "Duchamp" assignment where everything is abstract and nonrepresentational (basically fine art shenanigans).

So, for my assignment, I presented Rick with the following directions:

"Begin by taking the pencil and lightly tracing out four squares in a grid format.

Within the first grid, draw a circle with a trapezoid shape on the bottom. The circle should be inked black, and the trapezoid should be shaded with a pencil.

Within the same grid section, there should be jagged lines throughout the panel of varying thickness.

In the second grid section to the right, there should be three parallel lines together in batches of four. Next to these lines should be a triangle. The triangle should be cut out with scissors.

In the bottom left grid, there should be 12 red dots throughout the grid of varying sizes. There should be no less than three swooping lines as well, in black ink.

Within the same section, draw the same lines with your non-dominant hand, also in black ink.

In the final section, create a texture."

And this is the result.

And we once again see why you do the art. Although, for the texture part, I'm surprised I didn't see any spaghetti sauce in that panel.

I once did an abstract comic strip a couple of years ago. The characters were all basic shapes in pastel colors, and the dialogue ranged from super-pretentious diatribes about the nature of chaos and order within the universe, to nihilistic rantings about the state of humanity, to even making fun of a terrible webcomic I once saw. I even remember doing one comic that was basically ripping off Mondrian's style for no reason.

The really crazy part? I didn't do it for any assignment, and I was stone cold sober when I made them.
